Goodbye
Goodbye to over-playing my part in people's lives
Goodbye to having two-sided conversations in one mind
Goodbye to hating fragments of my reflection I find in the world
Goodbye to identifying with the pain that I thought defined me
Goodbye to expecting a reward for "heart felt" acts
Goodbye to damage control before the impact
Goodbye to overextended piers, with no land
Goodbye to running from labels that I was made to believe were "black"
Goodbye to shifting narratives to make me look more "white"
Goodbye to dressing for perception
I look how I feel. And I feel how I am. That's enough for me.
Goodbye to saying yes to everyone, and never even asking myself
Goodbye to forgetting I'm human and also need help
Goodbye to running around and being everyone's umbrella while I get soaked
Trying to tell them to run to shelter, but they'd rather not
Goodbye to lying to myself, and lying to others, about what I truly want and where I truly stand
Goodbye to selling out my convictions for comfort
Goodbye to filtering out my truth to make myself more palatable
Goodbye to aspirations without planning for transformation
Goodbye to taking "baby steps" without actually walking
Goodbye to feeling like I'm "behind" or "too late". I'm on Lord's time and my own schedule. I'll get there when I'm meant to be there, guaranteed.
Goodbye to "wasting time" and wasting time
Goodbye to taking everything personal. Life is so much sweeter than a smile
Goodbye to humanizing everyone to the point of robbing them of agency
Goodbye to regret. We're not friends no more. I move with purpose snd intention. Hesitation is on his way out the door too.
Goodbye to begging for crumbs and scraps at other people's table. I'll build my own, with the Heavens as my witness.
Goodbye to saying no to things that "don't suit me", to the possibility of a new identity. I am me, always have been and always will be. And I pray that I am never the same tomorrow as I was yesterday.
Goodbye to rigidity
Goodbye to the futures of my past, that were never meant to be
Goodbye to Old Me. All of Him. I loved him as best as I could, and to prove it I'll love New Me even harder.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, my friends ❤️
